Homers or
Homing Pigeons are bred to fly from great distances to home, mostly to win races. Purchased adult birds of this breed cannot normally be released as they will attempt to return to their birthplace. There are also breeds of Homing Pigeons that have been bred for show and are not really suitable for racing.
Taganroy, I believe, is a type of Tumbler. I will check tomorrow to be sure. Tumblers are bred to perform in the air by tumbling in some fashion. Normally, a backward sommersault but there are others that dive and do other stunts as well and are not necessarily called tumblers. Rollers were bred from tumblers to perform many consecutive sommersaults in the air.
Tumblers may be the most abundant of all breeds as there are very many breeds of them in probably every country that breeds pigeons. There are also very many show breeds of tumblers in a wide variety. They are certainly one of the most widespread types of
domestic pigeons in existence.
