3 weeks too soon

I have noticed a sudden outbreak of pox on my young ones the last few weeks and it tends to start when the babies are around 3 weeks old. We dont have a vaccine here, so i was thinking what if i took the babies out to a seperate cage so i can attended to them better, can they feed themselves or do they need to be tube fed.

It easier for me to seprate them and treat them than treating them in the loft. sick birds in the loft would mean diseases for the other new youngs.

Are they drinking water yet? That is a good indicator if they are ready to wean.

If they are watching their parents eating they will also partake of the seed and they should be getting interested around 3 weeks of age. You will have to encourage them to eat seeds and supplement until they get the hang of it.

You could put screen over any opening to stop them from getting bit. Pox will heal in say 6 to 8 weeks. Youngbirds are more apt to get it then older birds. Seperating them is ok but try to stop the problem. for now too.

As pox is spread by moiqstoes if you can stop the moiqstoes from entering your loft,or entering as much then you will reduce the problem. As you said there is no pox vaccine where you are. Next step is prevention.
