Hi Karen. Gee around here there aren't many places that we've found that sell pigeon feed. We have found one, and they sell just one kind. Puregrain. Lots of places have dove mix, but not pigeon. Guess doves are more popular, huh? LOL. So we buy it there, and then add other things to it. Popcorn, safflower, split green peas, lentils, etc. Much of what goes into it comes from the grocery store.Wish I knew of where I could buy those whole peas that they are so fond of. As it is, we pick out the corn that comes in it, because it is huge, and nobody likes it. I put it out for the ferrals. It would be nice if we could just buy something better to begin with. We could order online, but with the cost of shipping.....................

Hi Jay!
They might start eating the corn once the weather cools down. It generates a lot of heat so they sometimes avoid eating it in summer.

It took me awhile to figure out the stores here that sell pigeon feed. I was going to the bird club meeting and buying it in #50 bags off the back of a truck every month until someone told me about Dodge Grain in Salem.

Ordering online would be super-expensive. Shipping costs more than the feed.

BTW - are you anywhere near Sturbridge, MA? There's a big pigeon show there every December. Its great fun to go, even just as a spectator. You might be able to locate some grain dealers there? They always have a big feed & supply table at the show.

Hi again. As far as the corn, I don't think it comes any bigger. The same birds that hate it, love popcorn. I really think it's just too big. I have bought whole corn kernels for squirrels and the like that are no where near this large.
Yes, we're a little more than an hour away from Sturbridge, and we knew about the show and want to go, but we just don't know when in December it is. Hopefully not on one of my weekends on at work. How do I find out when it is? That would be a good idea to try to locate grain dealers at the show. I really hope that we can go. It would really be fun. How are your birds liking their new loft? They love it, I'm sure. Thanks for the info. Karen.

Here's the show info, for anyone in MA who's interested:

It is a really nice show representing many different breeds. I've gone for several years now and just love it!

Jay -
My birds rejected the large corn at first, but they eventually decided they liked it. Sometimes it can take a little while for them to get used to new things. But anyway I am sure the squirrels enjoy it regardless!

My birds are happy with their new loft and so am I. Hope yours are happy as well?

I went to the Sturbridge show last year and it was where I got hooked on pigeons and bought my first ones. There are hundreds of cages with dozens on breeds... There's no way I'm missing it this year, either.
