big scare and boy are these girls smart

Well , the other night I was carrying my two rescued girls back to their roost....I use a little wire pet carrier to transfer them from their night cage in my garage to their day pen in my backyard...and vice versa.....

well I closed my gate, outside the garage, went to pick up the cage, and without thinking lifted it by the top....

the bottom dropped off and both pigeons spilled out onto our walkway...I just stood there staring at them.....and thinking, if they fly on the roof...or away, they're dead

I just was frozen...and they looked at me, looked at the sky, at the open garage door....and walked home. right thru the door and into the garage...Now the better flyer decided to explore the rafters for a bit until joining her buddy....but i was floored and hugely relieved!!!!!!!!!!

I mean they fly in their exercise pen all the time....and I almost cried with relief when they walked down the garden path and home...unbelievable!!

What amazing little birds they are

It is so fortunate they know the routine and won't let a mere human disrupt it for them

the crazy thing is they had only been kept in the garage for a few days.....they figured out it was home, so fast...I am finding it takes them ONCE to figure anything out. better than the humans I think!!!!
