Can You Identify This Device????? Please

Can anyone please identify this device for me please???

My neighbor, who lives directly behind my house is in the process of installing this thing on his house. It is on the house at approximately 12 feet off the ground.

What concerns me about this device is that is placed and is directly facing towards my back roof. That is where my feral flock, nest & roost every night.

What also concerns me is that this neighbor is not at all fond of the pigeons. He already has a plastic owl up on top of his roof.

I have examined it as closely as I can and it does not look like any kind of lighting fixture I have ever seen. To me it looks more like a speaker of some sort.

Before, I go knocking on his door and question him, I hope someone can tell me what it is.

Thanks to all who respond.

looks like a motion detector for an alarm system.

Looks to me like a Motion Detector of some type as well - but may be for a dusk-to-dawn lighting setup rather than an alarm system.

I'm curious - what time of day did you take these pictures?

There is a small hole near the bottom so it could also be a camera of some kind.

I asked my husband since he's really into electronic stuff too and he thought it may be some type of receiver - like for a satellite or wireless network.

Thanks for all the responses. I took the picture around 7:00am. I don't think he is finished with the installation since his ladder is still out there.

I am not normally paranoid, but this thing is intimidating to me. If it was a motion detector it would be facing towards his walkway, not at my house. Also if it was a satellite receiver of some kind wouldn't it be facing towards the sky and not towards a solid object (my house) for interference.??

The idea that it could be some kind of camera really disturbs me, since my master bedroom is on that side of the house and there is a patio door access from it, directly in the line of this object.

I'm going to wait until the neighbor is out there and I am going to ask him what it is point blank!! I hope I get a truthful answer.

I was worried about the pigeons, but now I have other concerns as well.

Hi Louise,

Maybe it's some kind of high frequency sound emitting device. There are devices like this you can buy to supposedly deter mice, rodents and bugs from your house and maybe he thinks this device will bother your pigeons. I'm only guessing because I agree with you that it looks more like a speaker than a motion detector to me.

if he has had a fake owl on the house I would think this may be a high freqency sound to scare off the birds, and If it is on his house there is nothing you could do about it....but I would ask him just so that you will know. maybe get ahead of him and see if the birds will be fed on the otherside of the house.

The birds do feed in the morning on the other side of the house. There are nests up on the back side of the roof that this thing is facing. This is where the birds roost all night.

If this thing is a high frequency device to scare the birds off is there absolutely nothing I can do about it???? Can't I say my dogs are hearing it and it is affecting them??? Would there be some kind of device I could install to deflect it???

I'm really getting upset about this thing now. I don't think he is finished with the installation, but so far it doesn't seem to be bothering the birds.

The only things that prowl around at night here are some cats. This is a track home development, completely residential. Nearest open desert is over 15 miles away.

I can't wait to see this guy. Hopefully he will be out there over the weekend. If I can't address him casually over the back wall, I will go knock on his door. I need to know what this thing is.

If it's as effective as the high-frequency repeller thingy I bought that was supposed to get rid of mice, he will have turned out to have wasted his time and money. :-)

There are a number of things you can do about it.

First contact the village zoning department and tell them your neighbor has installed what you think may be a microwave emitter directed at your home. You want to know if he has village permission to do this and whether is is a radiation hazard. Let them come out and ask the questions.

If it is some sort of a microwave emitter, it can be easily blocked by just putting up a sheet of cardboard or plastic directly in line with its line of sight.

Third, if it is some sort of a microwave emitter you should talk to a lawyer about that. Signals that travel onto your property are trespass in the eyes of the law and result in someone paying damages.

Hi Louise,

I am not up on present day electronics...but, the little 'dot' would suggest a Lense possibly, which would then mean of course, that it is a video feed Camera...

Since there are endless styles for the appearance of such cameras, not all look like Cameras.

Or, the 'dot' could be a senser for light conditions, if it is a motion detector.

Of course, as others said already, motion detectors would be pointed 'to' the area one wishes the device to be detecting motion in, so, pointing 'out' like that, would be a little odd...as well as that Motion detectors tend not to use a round 'senser', nor one as large as the 'dot' the device in your image has.

Most - but not all - Ultrasound or High-Frequency emitters for annoying or repulsing Animals, have slits or patterns of tiny holes, for the 'sounds' to emerge from.

Microwave emitters of course do not need any slits or holes, and, at first blush, I sort of thought that was what this might be.

Since it is pointed at you, or at your property, probably, it represents some order of 'assault' technically...if it emits anything, anyway.

I tried a few 'googles' under the 'google image' option, for various headings, but did not find anything which is the same as what your image shows...

Here's one which is sort of in the ballpark -

Weird

A very small 'lens' if it is a motion detector - most have a far larger sensor.

If it is a camera why would the lens be down at the base limiting the angles at which it could be effective ... I dunno what it might be ... but I'll ask around
