dove info nest and breedingok ive read tonnes and been on many sites so i thought i would risk a post
ive not kept pigeons / doves before but have allways wanted some i now have a few and hopefully a pair or two i have converted my shed into a bird friendly enviroment there are flat shelves as well as branch perches there is food and water in hopper type feeders desigend for chickens . the shed needs more ventilation so i will sort that and i want to get them more light so i will do something about that too ok so long term i want to build a dove cote and have these white birds pigeons or doves ( i dont know the differnce ) flying around ( a dovecote plan would be great if anyone has one ) i would also like them to breed and not knowing about releasing them or how well they will do in the open i intend to keep some in the shed where they will hopefully fair a little better and be safer just in case something happens. some have fan tails so they will be kept inside and i will let the ones whose tails are not so fanned out as i think they will fly better and do better outside . any sugestions or help is appreciated ![]() |

Hi gaz025 and welcome to Pigeon-Talk. You're not going to get many answers to the questions you asked in this forum, so I'm moving your thread to General for now.
Are you in the UK? I ask because garden doves to European members actually means pigeons as opposed to doves. Domestic doves (real doves) have no business out and about (free flying) as they are easy prey for many different predators while pigeons have a much better chance of living a relatively long and happy life. thanks terry
, yes im in the uk . so the white dove / white garden dove is just a white pigeon when all is said and done ? thats kind of what i expected as they look so similar but i think the generalisation is that doves are different to pigeons . not really sure what i should be calling them tbh . they are white birds at the moment ![]() |
