Eggs .Eggs and more eggs (Confused)Hello We are new to pigeons. Just bought a couple and then a few..had them in cages until we got the pigeon hut built. Anyhow 5 pigeons..two and two seemed to pair up and one odd one out. Within a week we were surprised to see two nests with an egg in each and then two days later another egg in each. It appears that 2 pigeons were taking turns sitting on the eggs for each nest so we thought WOW just as it should be. Now today, 17 days after the second eggs were laid, we thought we noticed some excitement in one of the pigeons sitting on the eggs. We thought she was maybe trying to feed a hatchling.....but upon investigation we were surprised to find 4 eggs in that nest. What's up??? and what shall we do now. We plan to try to candle the eggs tomorrow. Any hints???
thanks ...foot... |

Thank you for your responce..Its possible that I may have 2 hens that have the 1 nest ..The first 2 birds that I aquired where thought to be "Cock and Hen" then I thought that I might have 2"cock birds (Bald headed Rollers) so I then aquired 3 birds and I was told that they were 2 Hens and 1 Cock bird (Old German Owls) they Quickly paired of as I thought Into 2 pairs ..Rollers and Germans being the pairs leaving the Cock bird German as the odd one.So now I beleave I have 1 pair Roller and German (Cock and Hen) and 1 pair Roller and German ( Both Hens) and an odd COck bird (German)....I have to leave the until the weekend It being the 19-20th day so as to know whether they will hatch or not ...correct?????.
..Foot.. and by the way John I see that your In the UK(Sussex)..I'm In the US (Florida). |

How many nest do you have for them. Is there another nest available? I think its great that you got some pigeons. You will love them. But after 17 days, I hope you can tell which ones are the new eggs and I would just toss the new ones. That is my opinion. Welcome to PT, you will learn a lot on here. min

As John said, either the 2 hens paired up and gave four eggs and none of those would hatch.
If its the odd "guy" who made both hens lay there is good chance they are viable and its better to take the new eggs out as suggested by Mindy. |
