Hello and welcome to Pigeon-Talk. Thank you so much for assisting this pigeon! Here's some brief answers to your questions .. please feel free to ask for more information.

1) Not usually, but there are exceptions.

2) Pigeon mix, dove mix, or just wild bird seed mix

3) While pigeons are pretty hardy birds, they do require proper housing, proper food, grit, etc. There is a wealth of information here on those subjects.

4) One is probably an identification band .. if it has letters and numbers on it, you really should post all the letters and numbers here or on 911 Pigeon Alert so the owner of the bird can be located. The other is likely a clocking band if this is a racing pigeon. If not a racing pigeon, then the second band may just be something the owner is using to further identify the bird.

Can you fill us in a bit on where/how you found/got this bird?

There is a large white dove/pigeon living in the rafters of the Lechemere subway/bus depot in Cambridge MA. He's very big, looks very clean and well fed, and has a different face than the feral piegons- but has apparently found a female feral as a mate....I think I could see a band on his foot, but as he's usually on a ceiling beam when i see him, no way to find out where he's from...
