Have your birds ever set up "fake" nests to fool you?

I had a pair of ferals, getting ready for releasing so they are loose, set up shop under a shelf, i out a basket down there and they laid eggs. I hardboiled them and put them back until i could get more fake eggs. After i did that, they smubbed that nest site pretty much. I mean, they stayed there for a few more days, but then snubbed it. I had a tarp kind of balled up in a corner for a few days until i could get rid of it, and all my "pigeon" laundry, the clean folded up stuff, was in the same corner. So, that SAME couple kind of went into the folds of the tarp and laid two eggs there, but i didnt notice until a few days later BECAUSE they were faking me out! They would RUN and FLY away from there anytime i went in, so i wouldnt find their nest and boil their eggs, and they would try to make it seem like they wanted to go to nest site #1 under shelf. i NEVER caught them sitting on nest site #2. I knew they didnt sit on site #1 anymore because the egg was ALWAYS cold, and the eggs at #2 hadnt been there for more then 3-4 days because i had just folded up more laundry and put it there 3-4 days before discovery of this nest site! Do pigeons ever do that? Set up a FAKE nest to fake us out? Now, as soon as they saw me rummaging over there, i took the eggs, boiled them, and came back to find momma looking frantically for her eggs there. Now they snubbed that spot too!
I'm WONDERING though if its the same pappa in both nests, but different mommas, because is it even physically POSSIBLE for a momma to lay eggs and then a week or 2 later lay more eggs? I thought it took a while? The daddy is SUCH a male, he's a homer among all ferals, so he thinks he is just THE man! He's going to a new home soon, and i suspect will be sorely dissapointed he wont be the only homer anymore!
Anyone else ever find a hidden nest? Now, since the egg was 3-4 days old, i didnt just hardboil a baby, did i? How long does it take for an egg to form a "baby?"

They obviously know you too well. They're going to succeed one of these days.

OH NO! NO babies allowed! I am the landlord, and i WILL prevail! ALL shall respect my AUTHORITY!
They ARE sneaky little devils though! Today i found the new nest site because they had gotten into my closet, pulled the stool of string from my sewing machine, and pulled the end of thread ALL the way across the room behind the bags of seed! I almost decapitated myself going into my room because the stool was still attached to my machine!
Silly silly birds!

I had some birds fool me a couple of times. Victoria and Peeper were the ones, they never got of the nest. I though once they were sitting on those dummies forever and I checked under Victoria and she was sitting on four eggs.
They are pretty smart

Yes, I have a couple pair I don't trust it's like an easter egg hunt. I really don't think my pij Zeke cares about the eggs, she just doesn't want me to have them.
