i am new

hello all,

i am new here, i am not pigeon owner, but a pair nested in my balcony, and made 2 eggs, the 2nd popped out today.

i am now excited about the soon to come babies.

but i just saw that the adult pigeon is not sitting on the eggs, and i went to toch them, they were cold.

as i said i am not into pigeons, but i do know that in order to have babies, the parents need to heat the eggs, by sitting on them, and making them hot, right?

so i am not a bit sad, should i do something?

Could be they will come back and start incubating the eggs unless they been spooked by something or someone. Try to leave the nest alone and if they do come back, the eggs will hatch in about 18 days if they are fertile.

You may have unintentionally spooked her so don't touch them anymore. Could be she is sick. It's just hard to say. Keep an eye out and let us know what happens in the next couple of days.

You could offer mom a little wild bird seed and clean bowl of water to ease her unsureness, and help her out.

Thank you.

Thank you for helping this needy mom.

If the pigeon seed is drawing other birds, those other birds are scaring the mom away and/or she feels threatened. Do not leave any extra seed out in that case, only enough for mom and dad to eat. Any left-overs should be removed, as this can leave the babies vulnerable.
Perhaps you can leave seed out somewhere else for the other birds.

Titi, try not to worry about it too much. Sometimes pigeons will do this, but the most important thing is if both Dad and Mom are sitting on the eggs and both take care of the new babies when they hatch.

Oh, male pigeons all flirt with other hens, it doesn't mean they don't love their mates.

She might be single and looking for a mate, but she may be a nuisance. He should be chasing her away if she gets too close to the nest though.
