My pigeon (Pheap) is also an only bird. We've had her for a bit more than two years, since she was a squeaker. She seems happy and is very sociable. She's clearly bonded to humans. I don't know if she misses birds, since she was young when we got her.
She does consider me to be her mate, though. At the moment she's nesting, sitting on "our" eggs! She's very cuddly with me and likes to follow me around the apartment, stomp across the computer keyboard, and be petted. I've noticed that when we eat she flies off to her dish and eats. And, even funnier, when I feed the cats, she does the same! So, I guess she's adopted them as her flock as well. My experience with her suggests that a house pigeon seems to be fine alone as long as he or she gets lots of company, time out of the cage, and cuddling. Pigeons seems to be rather adaptable about who they'll adopt for their social groups. And aren't they fun to have around??? Kristi |

Perhaps your pigeon 'imprinted' on you? I saw an interesting special on PBS about a man who raised a canada Goose since it was a hatchling, and the goose followed him everywhere.... Perhaps your pigeons thinks you too are a pigeon-..... |

wow.....sound like im not the only one to make the realization that pigeons are great house pets......
Pig. has been a great experience for my family....i think she has "bonded" as a mate to my boyfriend......she lets him be way more physical with her than me.......i heard this is common with birds and lizards...that they will choose the opposite of their sex to be their favorite......anybody know anything about that??? i know she likes me.....we have our moments together.....my favorite is when im washing my face and she wants a nice warm bath......she will land on my shoulder and make her way down my arm..into the sink.... i plug it up for her...and fill it up.......she splashes around a bunch...then lift her wing up and look at me....as if to say....."would you mind with a little help".....and i will splash some water under her wings for her.... i also really enjoy when she flies outside..to get some serious air.... i watch her fly circles around the house...maybe a few stops in the trees.....then right back into the house.........i think this might be the best part of a house pigeon........they have some freedom...but then choose to come back home..... one concern.....my bird is also a female and lays eggs........how long to you let her sit on them before you go in and clean house??? i have never had one start to stink....but what do you think is healthiest way to handle this situation???
