Expanded metal floors Work fine And Birds do stay in shape be it for race or for show. I use expended metal in the front open section of my loft I know people who use it on there whole loft floor and they win many races. The world of wings uses it in there main loft. I have never seen a mouse or snake in the loft. Now you want the loft to be far enough off the ground as to be not effected by moisture. Wood flooring is great also Now in coloder climates expanded metal floors I think would be a winter problem. But Lofts I humans needs Not really pigeon needs. As An old ugly looking loft That has good air exchange And can meet certion needs for the birds will do as good as any top of the line loft. Just a decent looking loft also keeps neighbors guite. if to close to the ground say closer then 1 foot moisuter could effect your birds Plus allow more sickness. expanded metal floors have been used for several years But wood floors for many many years. Wood floors would be cheaper as here expand metal is about 50 to 60 dollars per 4x8 sheet where ocb is now around 11 to 12 dollars for a 4x8 sheet So you could get 3 to 4 sheets of ocb For that 1 sheet of expanded metal. As flooring it never messes up any feathers really Ground type birds I would never say use it as it would mess them up because they spend 90 percent time on the floor. Such as fantails some tumblers large utility breeds.
