Lost Pigeon in NC

Just got off the phone with my sister. Her neighbor recently had a banded pigeon stroll in the house and tug at her pants leg. He took the bird outside, tossed it up and it flew, but come back moments later, apparently lost.

This is in Northeastern NC, near the coast and about 50 miles south of the Virginia/NC border, in Currituck County.

The pigeon has a band on each leg. On one band, it has "IF" and "BHS1000." On the other band (pink), are the numbers 826.

I don't know the first thing about pigeons, but she has asked me to help, so I'm asking you guys, where do I go from here?
