I am new to the forum. I have new pigeons, the new quilds have some sort of disease. They have some sort of white thing growing in their trought. It looks like it grows and then the little pigeons die. I have had 2 and both of them died.

All advice, mediaction or treatment would be appreciated.

It is most probably canker.
Stop breeding, remove all eggs and treat birds for following:
Canker - medicine is Spartrix
Coccidiosis - medicine is Appertex
Worms - medicine is Praziquantel
Repeat treatment after 14 days.

Hi

There's an illness known as 'canker' (trichomoniasis) which causes yellowish cheesy looking growth at back of mouth and in throat. If birds treated in time it can be dealt with, but if it blocks throat and they cannot swallow food they will die. Pls see pic at end of this post.

If it's more like white dots, it could be a yeast infection.

That's just a couple of possibilities but not the only ones.

Canker can be treated with Spartrix, which is available from pigeon supply places (Foys, Siegels or local pigeon supplier in US, Boddy and Ridewood in UK). Tablets can be crushed and mixed with water if the throat is too blocked for a solid tablet. Bad cases can need extra meds - we use Metronidazole (Flagyl - also available as Dimetronidazole) but we have to get it on vet pescription (in UK).

Yeast can be treated with Nystatin, which we also have to get on prescription.

What you can get depends prob on where you are. Also, not sure if you are talking birds a few weeks old or babies in the nest. If it turns out to be canker, better dose the parents too even if they seem OK.

Canker (which was treated with Spartrix and Metronidazole and cleared up)
