need help acquiring medications...bad vet trip..ugh

so here is my dilemma.
both my doves have been showing signs of being ill. they both are sneezing seem lethargic and have had ruffled feathers frequently. there are no avian specialist near me. the closest place i found was about an hour away and it was an animal hospital. i had to pay $130 USD just for going to the ER and the vet tech checked out my female. i could only take her because i could afford another 130 to bring them both. yes they charge for both. so the VT checks her out and weighs her. she seems knowledgeable enough. then the vet comes in and the first thing out of her mouth was "hi im blah blah blah...im not an avian vet but i have birds.." i was like wahh...?? you would think that when i called about bringing in my birds they would tell me that the actual avian specialist was not there. but no they wanna milk me for my money. now i know that bird owners have a lot of knowledge when it come to there birds. this forum is living proof of that but this vet was stupid. she felt her abdomen and was saying how she didnt feel and egg but she wasnted to do an xray to see. i already knew this. my female only lays one egg at a sitting instead of the normal two. and she had just laid one a little less then a week ago. i told the vet this.she said she didnt hear harsh respiratory breathing, but maybe faint. she left and didnt really say much of anything. the VT came back with a estimate. it had two medications for respiratory and a fluid thing. sorry i cant remember what it was called. it was about 40 USD and it was for dehydration. i asked her what her reason was for thinking my bird was dehydrated. she said i dont its just for support.. translation: more money for my paycheck. and it also had an over 200 dollar xray fee. these two things i declined i payed for the two medicines which were about $15 each for about .5ml each. as the prescriptions are only.04ml and .05ml and they seem to have measred out the exact amount of drops before giving it to us. i asked if i would be able to get the medicine for my other bird too since he was having the same symptoms. they told me i had to bring him in. thats another 200 right there. so all in all. not a very good trip.
my question to everyone is where they get the medicines that they say they just have stocked for the just incase times.

my two prescriptions are:
enrofloxacin suspension
and
meloxicam oral suspension

thanks in advance for any help

It sounds like they mixed the medicine especially for your bird. Enrofloxacin is a generic baytril. The other is an anti-inflammatory drug.
The vet doesn't need to be an avain vet to treat birds just one that is familar with them and treats them on a regualr basis.

Did they look at the poop?

im not sure about them molting as i dont think they have while ive had them. the female might be. she has a LOT of new feathers growing in right now and she feels hard and spikey because of them. i actually asked the VT about it because i had noticed a lot of feathers in their cage. she sais they do that because they use it for nesting material. the male is sneezinf more then she is and he hasnt seemed to loose many feathers. but im not familiar with molting to be honest.
