need help pls.

i just had my first pair of tippler pigeon a week ago, they are about 5 months old... when i bought them i already noticed a wart-like looking thing on the cocks nose, the seller told me that some bully pigeon just pecked it and told me that it was just fine... but ive noticed the past few days that he's not looking healthy at all.

please help me with my problem.

Sounds like it might be Pox. Search the database here on PigenTalk for info on Pigeon Pox. There is a lot of good info here.

It is possible the seller may be truthful, but it does sound suspicious.

I would keep that one separated from the other tippler, and any other pigeons you may have until you know just what the problem is.

The pox virus (if it does turn out to be pox) can enter the system through a peck wound, which could possibly mean the seller has a bird which is a carrier of the virus.

If you (or any local fanciers) know of an avian vet, I'd always advise examination to get a proper diagnosis. There is no actual treatment for pox, as it is a virus, but often there is eventually a natural recovery, though it could look worse before it gets better.

When you say the pigeon doesn't look well .... is he fluffed up, not eating, or other symptom? What are his poops like? Is there any sign of a growth inside the beak also?

John

i wouldnt take a chance, seperate that bird immediately as far as you can from the other birds. Pox once present in the loft is very difficult to get clear of.

he separates himself from the rest of the pigeons coz i also have a pair of white pigeons in a 6'x3'x6' loft. and i often see him close his eye's from time to time(as if something is hurting). he's eating, his poop seems normal but ill chk it out again later, the pox is in his left nose.

i already isolated him in a separate small cage.

il get a picture of him later coz their loft is a few mins drive away in our small farm.

thx for all the help... and more power...

I can't really tell from the picture, but it probably is pox. Keep the bird separate from your others, dab the pox lesions with a drying agent like Betadine, and be sure the bird is eating and drinking adequately. You may have to hand feed the bird if it is losing weight.

God bless you too.

You can also use colloidal silver, as it is drying, gentle and has some added bonuses of killing any infection. yYou can by it at a health food store.
