New Owner

Hi guys,

I have recently been thinking about getting involved in owning some homing/racing pigeons.

I admit i know nothing about it, so found this forum and hope to get some advice.

I have also read other threads on owning and caring for them.

What type of Loft would be best? As a complete beginner how many should i get?

Sounds a silly question, but would they be let out every day?

As i said, just looking into the basics before lunging into it.

Any info would be appeciated, thanks.

The first thing I did when I started was get as much information as I could BEFORE I got birds. I did a lot of reading. I read anything I could get my hands on. By doing all the reserch I came across my mentor. If you can find yourself a good mentor I feel thats half the battle. The other is to build the biggest and best loft that you can afford. Everyone has there own way of doing things but find one and stick to it for a year or two before you start to change it. My mentor always told me to stick to 3 things; clean water, clean feed, and clean loft. Here's a link to my mentors web site that was a big help to me when I got started and a link to my racing loft I just built. Good Luck

As someone new to the Pigeon Hobby, I would recommend that you study All that you can, about All kinds of Pigeons.
A good place to start would be the National Pigeon Association- NPA.
The reason being, if you finally order some Pigeons, you will know what you bought!
You might even find a breed of Pigeon that is more suited to your particular taste. It has happened.
