Picture of a REAL racing pigeon missing !Quote:
There are some real pretty pigeons shown on the 2004 Pageant, however a very important breed was missing. A preformance bred Racing pigeon. I am talking about a bird that can fly 300 to 500 miles in a single day ! Those birds referred to as Homers on the web site listed were "Show" birds. If your readers want to see what a REAL racing pigeon looks like ! http://hometown.aol.com/smithfamilyl...e/profile.html more photo's at : http://hometown.aol.com/smithfamilyloft/page1.html If you were to hold one of these birds in your hand, you could feel the muscle and realize this ain't no bird bred to look pretty in a cage, but to fly, and to fly long, hard, and very very fast !

Hi Warren,
The lady who shared the pictures with us is totally into fancy/show breeds and color pigeons, so her bias definitely showed. Thank you for the links to your awesome looking birds! There is definitely a different look and feel with a "real" racing pigeon compared to my/our beloved ferals and most of the show or fancy breeds. Even though the racers that come into my care are almost always sick and/or injured, the look and feel of them is much more solid and muscular. Terry |

There was several breeds Probably not shown in the photos. But there may have been several racing homers in the show. And they to are judged on points. And then you have the flyers that hate any color but blue bars and blue checks. When if the bird was pink with yellow polca dots And could win the race it would not matter.

Hi Warren,
Thanks for sharing your website and photos. My best breeding hen is Claessens cross - down from Bonte Exter and Galaxy. The other half is old Janssen Arendonk. She won a 150 as a YB with the Quaker City Combine against 76 lofts and 1655 pigeons. I share your love for these wonderful pigeons. Terry, those are great shots of truly remarkable pigeons. Please pass along my thanks to Nance. birdy |
