Pigeon on roof

Hi there,

We live in Upstate NY. Just recently we have noticed a pigeon sitting on our roof. He'll (or she) be out there sometimes for 1 or 2 days then we notice he is gone and then all of a sudden he is back.

A few weeks before we noticed him, we saw a man out in the fields and it looked as if he were setting birds out to fly, we didn't know what kind of birds but my DH and I commented on it and thought how neat that was, and shortly after that we noticed our new friend on the roof.

We have been looking for the man out in the field again, but have not seen him. We were going to ask him about the pigeon.

Other that our new friend, we have not noticed any other pigeons out and about.

Tonight he is back and sitting on the gutter on the side of the house. We put out a little bowl of bird food as we know nothing about pigeons.

Anyone have any ideas?

Can you tell if your little visitor has a band(s) on his leg? If he does, & you are able to catch him or get close enough to read the numbers from the band, you can post them here & we will be happy to help you locate the owner.

If he isn't banded, this is probably a feral pigeon that has decided to stop by for a bit of seed & water. He may have a nest and family near by.

I wonder if the pij belongs to that guy and he can't figure out how to get him back. Kinda strange only one pigeon and a man out in the feild.
