Question

Pigeon Whole corn pre baiting

Hi, I'm a professional exterminator in South Florida and recently I started a pre baiting
treatment for pigeons with whole corn, but after putting it in the roof under the A/C units
for more than 10 days I notice that they are not eating the corn. My questions are:

Why? is it because they already know thats a treatment to get rid of them?
(That area has a lot of problems with pigeons and some may have been in contact
in the past with Avitrol)
or

Should I move the baiting site away from the A/C units to a more quiet spot?

or

Should I try pre baiting with mixed grains?

I will appriciate your quick response, please

Thank You

Maybe you should try screening off the areas instead.

Screening off the areas to prevent access would be more humane as well as more permanent.

Just make sure you don't trap in babies behind the screen. If you find babies, contact us and we will try to find someone to take them.

air units

I worked as a plant mantanence tech, and it was not very hard to screen off the bottoms of the heat air units. Sure you have to think and do a little work
but I know first hand the problems they cause, There poop gets all over the main gas flow control valves and so on, its a mess to work on and does create long term problems due to corrosion.
I have also seen when they would open on Monday morning the Pigeons would be in the belt cage and blower units, lets just say it was not pretty. There was an old chiller unit that was no longer used so I opened up some areas for them and watched many young birds take there first flight

This is a pigeon-friendly site, not a pigeon extermination site.

People who may wish to simply exclude pigeons in a humane way may get good advice here, but not someone who kills them.

I don't know what you are doing George.....pre-baiting for what exactly ? Surely you must know that this is a world wide PRO pigeon site ?

For those not familar with the use of Avitrol, see the SPCA link below. I have heard of some crazy pigeon people out there actually shooting the exterminators....please obey the law, in some parts of the country, you must shoot to wound or maim, and not kill the exterminator so check your local ordinance.

We have members in South Florida who rescued victims of Avitrol poisoning. It is a very slow and painful death, and these birds defenitely suffer. Most importantly what you are doing is a sin against Gods' creation.

Please take the advice of those professionals/members who take the humane route and screen off any areas where the pigeons roost. If you make these locations undesirable for them they won't return. Pigeon numbers will grow anyway, after poisoning as has already been proved in many studies. As long as there is food source and a place for these noble and intelligent creatures to roost they will thrive in great numbers.
