PigeonPerson - AKA Fred

Hi Folks,

I've heard about and read the recent questionable posts from Fred lately on the forum and I just wanted to express my opinions about this man, whom I've never met but have "known" for quite a long time.

My "relationship" with Fred began many years ago and back in the days when I wasn't very knowledgeable about all sorts of things relating to pigeons, medicine & their specific needs & care. I had joined a group in the Yahoo community called the FPRC. (Feral Pigeon Rescue Central) and this was back before I even joined PigeonTalk/Life so around mid to late 2001.

At that time, I was having terrible difficulties with my single pet pigeon, Foghorn...he became very sick after nearly a year of me having him and then after introducing him to a new hen, Henny that I acquired for his mate...at that time.

The FPRC was a group that Fred had intiated at the time, at least that is what I recall but it was his compassion, along with many others that are here today in this group, who helped me tremendously. Helen from the UK, was the person who was there for me the night before Foghorn died. She instructed me to provide heat, liquids, and to tube feed if necessary. These concepts were totally foreign to me at the time but I followed her advice. Foghorn died the day after, but not to blame Helen, Fred or anyone that I was in contact with at that time, and from the FPRC list. We ALL learned a few things from this example and this is when I became very frightful & paranoid of what the various nematodes were capable of. Foghorn died from a threadworm infection that overwhelmed his body and from contact with my new pigeon, Henny.

Not long after I left this list, heartbroken and very discouraged, Fred and I occasionally emailed one another, along with certain other "long time" members from that group...Terry is/was one of them whom I've been in contact with for all these years. Cynthia, Cindy, John and a handful of other people have been there with me all along my path with my pigeons.

I'm just hoping that you guys could find it in your hearts, maybe to understand where Fred is coming from. None of us have the perfect "online" etiquette but we all care quite a bit about pigeons...that I have no question.

Sorry for the ramblings, but I just wanted to give my 2 cents and to support someone who has always been kind, friendly and compassionate to me, personally. Someone who was always curious enough, compassionate enough and cared about my runt pigeons and their welfare when he didn't have to ask at all.

Fred.....stop being so difficult, please! You are a great person, a little stubborn yes, but we all are at times and for different reasons. Don't take things personally here as it's so easy to at times

Brad,
I've known you over the web for as long as you have known me over the web (lol). What you have done is a very nice thing and I wouldn't have expected anything less coming from such a nice guy. Thank you very much.
I certainly don't intend to open up anything here but wanted to respond in the same spirit you posted and say thank you very much for this. It's greatly appreciated.

Not sure what is going on with this PigeonPerson - AKA Fred situation.

I do think PigeonPerson - AKA Fred has helpful information and alot of knowledge. To me PigeonPerson - AKA Fred seems like a great person.

I know a couple of times I got a little mad at his response but like anything else I got over it. I do wish PigeonPerson - AKA Fred would keep some of his info shorter and easier to understand. I am attention and big word challenged and sometimes short of time, therefore he totally loses me.

I don't know what brought this thread on, hurt feelings/web brawl.
Just wanted to add my opinion.

Thank you!

We are all different, with different circumstances. I don't know if you should or should not use anesthesia when it comes to healing birds. There seems to be a good debate in both instances, by the very knowledgeable.

I do know that I would not want anyone cutting into my child or dog without it. I only pray that if someone found my dog with a broken leg and was asking for help, that Fred would be on that forum yelling "Get that dog to a vet!"

I am thinking of a certain post where a member found a little dove with her wing torn off. This person made it very clear that it was out of the question to get this little bird to a vet. A few of our members walked her through the most hair raising ordeal. That darling little dove pulled through with flying colors, and ended up being quite spoiled and loved.

I have not yet found a good avian vet that I trust with pigeons. I will take my birds when I do not know how to deal with an illness. I always thought that if they ever needed surgery that anesthesia would be used.

I feel terrible when tempers flair, feelings are hurt, and people that are dedicated to helping our pigeons lash out at each other. We all have the same passion. I do feel that we need to express our differences in a way that is not hurtful to one another. I lashed out at Christina once, and I know that I could have found a more diplomatic way to express to her how I felt.

We do need a balance. We need to respect differences in opinion, and we need to be a little more considerate toward one another.

From the words of the great poet, Rodney King. "Can't we all just get along?"

We are not going to have a debate here about the merits and demerits of "Pigeonperson" or any other member. This forum is neither about putting people on pedestals nor knocking them down.

I agree with what has been said about the bad feelings, hostility, etc. - these are not what we want to see on this forum. So, frankly, I am surprised that a thread like this could even have been started. After what has gone before, it is virtually an invitation to heated argument.

This forum is for anyone with an interest in pigeons - rescue, racing, showing, feeding ferals, pets. When it comes to rescuing and treating pigeons, it matters not to me whether someone has saved the life of one or a hundred.

I believe, too, we could all take note of what Kippy said about posts. I would particularly like to ask everyone to keep the sections for people needing help practical, directly relevant and simple, and refrain from turning them into lengthy debates.

This thread is closed.

John
