Pigeons and homing ability

Hey Everyone,

Just to clarify a few things I've said earlier and to give some insight....all domestic pigeons have an inate "homing" ability. Rock doves are the ancestors of ALL domestic pigeons and rock doves have always possessed this homing ability naturally in varying degrees. Throughout the millenia that pigeons have been domesticated and bred by man into other breeds, certain ones have lost some or all of their natural homing instincts. Either due to physical impediments that have caused them to lose their ability to fly, or characteristics that impair their vision etc. Any domesticated pigeon breed will still have a "shadow" of homing ability in there somewhere. The thing is, it's been lost in many breeds that haven't been specifically selected to further this wonderful and amazing ability.
