pigeons to pigeonsHEy i had a quick question. my loft is small and holds about six comfortably. with a big outdoor cage so they can fly. there is four white homers in it right, only one pair so far. i want to get a pair of blue checks. in order to do so i will have to give away the two non paired homers to be able to fit the blue checks. my question is, will the two different homers have a hard time sharing space, or not get along?
thanks for you time and answers... |

In time the new birds will settle in, how big is your loft? Dave

If you are talking about the color difference, I dont think it matters. But bringing in the new ones might cause probs for just a little while. because the older ones, have had more time in the loft, the new ones will have to establish themselves in it. But I think after a while they will get a long, with maybe some minor fights, but as long as they arn't over croweded and have space for them, then everything \should be okay. I hope that answers the question you ansking?

If they are both cocks they will be a lot of fighting and one want to be the ALPHA male of the coop...Since you mentioned that your coop is small and only can hold less than ten birds, you will have a lot of fighting going on unless you will have a bigger nestboxes and can contain the cock in his own nestbox...Id you have two hens, I don't think much of fighting but of course them too are territorial...Good luck with your future pair...

As far as space....the more....the better! Fights will happen when you introduce new birds to any loft but the amount of space will determine the amount of fighting going on in the loft. The cock birds are very territorial and will fight often if there is limited space. I only have 5 birds of which 2 are cocks in a loft ( 4x8x6)that can house 20 birds and they still chase each other around. The fights have stopped quite a bit with time but they still get at each other from time to time.
