I believe it was ChristinRN who had a recent thread about her discovery that the prickly foliage of the holly plants were discouraging ''varmints'' from invading her loft and screen. She had planted the holly around the outside of the premises

You could cover two bases by planting some attractive plants which the birds could nibble on for added vitamins. Favorites of my birds are lettuce, kale, garlic chives, and African marigolds.
