Oh, Terry....I'm sorry you are faced with so much crisis.
There is not much I can do from here, but hope and pray others will come to the rescue.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'll be calling Margaret in just a few minutes with the contact information for the rescue person trying to get this all worked out. There are also 18 dogs at this site that have to find some help and who knows what other kinds of unfortunate creatures may be there.

The 100+ birds were birds left behind when an animal hoarder was put in jail for his lack of care of the birds and animals. The local animal control is trying to work with rescues in the area to save the birds as well as the dogs that are there. I've been doing bird rescue in the area for more than 10 years, so just about everybody knows who I am and how to contact me.
Our member, Margarret, was kind enough to offer to assist in getting the Pomona birds out to Bart's, but as it turned out, another home in the Malibu area had been found and the original rescue people had things worked out. While Margarret was following up on the Pomona situation, I was heading to the gas station where there are pigeons in a trap on the roof. It looks like only three or four in the trap and they had water that I could see and presumably had food (or they wouldn't have gone in the trap to start with). The owner of the station was not in and couldn't be reached by phone, but a kindly young lady at the cash register promised to get me the name and phone # of the pest control company tomorrow and also made a note asking the owner to call me. Once I have been in touch with these folks, I'll see what we can work out. I would rather try and work something out with the pest control and the owner of the station before taking any radical action. I think the birds will be OK for another day. The employees at the gas station have still not been able to come up with the name of the pest control company for me. They are nice people, but the owner of the station is never there, and they don't have access to the records to find the info for me. Hopefully this will all fall into place later today .. I've already called the station this morning to "egg" them on about getting me the info I need. Terry |

Any luck with the trapped birds? How about placing the others? I have been thinking about them.

Still working on the pigeons being trapped at the gas station .. this one has gotten a bit complicated, but I think it will end well. This is one that I cannot push too far without alienating my animal control friends/contacts .. hopefully some good news next week. The person who reported these birds to me has/had already pissed off animal control beyond any hope of recovery, and it also turns out she did a very poor job of getting the facts .. no working phone #'s for the gas station, no name/phone # for the pest control, so I am having to work through animal control on this one. Yes, I went to the gas station myself and can understand the original rescue person getting stymied .. turns out I did also. I thought the people were cooperative, but turns out they were not. We'll see .. I'll get it handled in the end but will not burn my bridges with animal control to do this .. will find another way if I have to. Terry |

You say the birds are being removed? A plan I came up with was to put a tent on the other side of the gas station and camp there and see who and when they take the birds out and where do they go. This isn't logical for you since you're a very busy person...if only someone lazy like me was around there. Anyways good luck on this one Terry. Hope everything goes well for everyone.

Hi Terry,
I just wanted to wish you the best with dealing with those people, and the situation with the pigoens. Dealing with monkey's is lot harder than dealing with birds, I've found. You could offer them some bananas? Wouldn't it be funny if you smoothed the whole thing over by giving them a banana cake?. It would almost be worth trying, just to see if it worked. |
