PMV-isolate for how long?I know they've stopped shedding the virus and no longer contagious to others after 6 weeks of the symptoms starting, how long do you normally isolate for? At least 7 weeks? I used to isolate for at least 2 months, but am pushed for space as I've had a run of PMV'ers in the last 2 weeks, I don't want to put any other patients at risk though, all my long termers are vaccinated against PMV and Pox.
Thanks ![]() |

You can do 7 weeks, but make certain that they have lots of baths. Although they stop shedding the virus after 6 weeks it can survive in poops, feathers etc a lot longer. Having said that we have never yet had a case of cross infection, even before we knew of the virus' survival rate.

If all your birds are vaccinated they should be safe from PMV and pox.

Good point Cynthia, thanks
![]() Reti, my long term birds are vaccinated but none of the patients are, so they are still at risk if I make a mistake ![]() |
