I have seen a couple of pairings like that, they either work it out or the one hen becomes "seconds". It is an emotional as well as physical termoil for the hens. I would introduce another male if all possible, because if they are both aggressive hens, they will never tolerate each other.
I have a hen who has been "in-love" with Hamilton all her life, she became his second interest, but she is emotionally hung up on Hamilton, and will not even consider any of the flirtations and advances from my other birds. It is up to the hen who she chooses, and sometimes they refuse other males. Hamilton seems to be a catch, has been all his life, as is his son, Skye. LOL

Well... seperating them really isn't much of an option as I don't have another loft of area to put one of them into.
There's other cock-birds in my loft, but all of them except Gonzo are paired off... no hen seems to like Gonzo... Amelia hasn't shown much interest in any of the other cock-birds except Speedy.Amelia and Speedy used to be a "pair", sort of, until Shelly grew-up... then I guess Speedy opted for the "younger woman". To be honest, I'd rather pair up Speedy and Amelia, but right now, except for one round I'm letting BoyBird & LadyBird (a son to mother line-breed) raise right now, I'm not letting them raise any young... its wooden eggs for all. Anyway, they'll work it out. ![]()

The saga continues... I look out into the loft just a bit ago and there's Speedy preening Shelly... and sitting right there too is Ameilia preening Speedy & Shelly!! Does anyone know of any place that builds nest boxes / nest bowls built for 3?? ![]()

Quote:
We have Chubby Checker with his two, Wingo and Wennity, who kind of get along but sometimes have a little tussle. Chub spends time with each of the hens and each is generally sitting on (plastic) eggs, one in a floor level box, the other being outside it but close by, nestled in the woodchips. Then we have Little Owl and his hens. His original hen is Stephie, who had PMV and still has neurological signs. She seemed unable to tend the nest, and Owl took up with Silly Billy and took over a freestanding chinchilla nestbox (smaller than our 12 x 12 x 12 fitted boxes). Stephie decided she would oust Billy and move back with Owl and we can never predict who will have commandeered the eggs. Couple of times, all three have been crammed into the box. We did have a two males and one hen situation, too, but one of the males is currently inside under observation after getting a wound inside his beak. Once he goes out again, anything could happen ![]() When we had our tiers of boxes made for the shed, we had the very top row as three double width boxes instead of six 12" boxes. John
