Twins-two chicks from same egg

I checked the kids this morning and found in one nest box 3 little yellow chicks. I knew they had only two eggs in there last night at feeding time,So are they considered twins? And is this somewhat common? This is the first time this have happened to me.Is this pair more likely to produce this since this happened or is just chance?
