Now that I think about it.........what's a "loaner" hen? Are you supposed to ship one of the birds back to him?
If it was me........the bird that died was the "loaner" hen........

I still think the heat is on the seller HE new how many birds the box was desighned to hold And put more in the box. THe post office did not open the box. They shipped the birds. We are lucky that the post office even ships the birds. I remember over the road frieght lines used to be how you shipped AND that could take a week in a box. BUT at least looking at the real point THe birds that made it alive THEY need the care and should recover. They are what matters now We all learn from mistakes This is a learning matter ask about box size OR send the right size box to the seller OFTEN this is the way its done buyer furishes the box plus pays shipping. Post offices have already changed shipping birds reduced delivery points More complaints and then they may just reduce more restrictions. I do not think any blame or complaints fall on there shoulders AND for the most part pigeon peddlers sell any pigeon sick healthy weak or strong. They often get other peoples culls for free and sale them. BUT they are part of the need to . Because they take those unwanted birds And find homes for most of them. Or most would end upin a bad way. Just remember these birds should be safe now. and a lesson learned on shipping. Have a glass of tea and be glad for the birdsThe only person who should or might seek any matters should be the buyer If they choose not to we should not expect more.

Sorry, but I can't agree with you this time. This WAS NOT a mistake. I'll play along for a minute though just to make a point........let's say that the BUYER DID send the box to the seller and it was the wrong size. Now you tell me.....what would YOU do if that happened? STUFF 5 BIRDS IN THERE ANYWAY and say "oh, he made a mistake on what size box to send"....OR, would you call the BUYER and tell him that you couldn't possibly put 5 birds in that small box? UMMMMM

Sounds like to me they're ending up in a bad way anyway.

There's only two lessons learned here. Don't buy pigeons from PigeonPeddler learned by the buyer.
It's ok to ship birds any way I want to because no one is going to say anything because it might hurt the ability to ship birds...learned by the PigeonPeddler.

Now, I'm done with this thread, unless I can do anything to HELP........we can argue all day and then some..........bottom line is.........this should NEVER happen and there's more than one person responsible here and if someone doesn't do something it will continue to happen.

People can get upset about most anything I did not say its ok to ship birds in anysize of a box. What i am saying is focus on the birds. The one that arrived alive THE other may very well been a sick bird. You get those from peddlers very often. I am saying it is not the post offices fault at all. They would have to have opened the box for inspewction to take fault. THAT is not done unless a problem has been noticed or supected. Argue is not what I was trying to do. But to me we need to not over react trying sometimes to do to much good ends up being to much wrong. I have had birds shipped to me in the old days Of truck shipping that took 5 days and no boxs like now days. And 10 birds in what would be a 5 bird box today. NO problems Except thirsty birds at arrivel. Because the birds were shipped in good health. If theses birds was in good health Perhaps all would have made it I do not know the birds health statis before shipping . Healthy birds can endure more stress. Wrong is wrong I am not defending wrong but throwing more rocks at a wrong is wrong also.

i agree with re lee, I too when I got back into pigeons had 10 tipplers shipped to me in a box that size and they all made it here safe an sound without a problem and even since then have had many times 4 homing pigeons shipped in a 2 bird box ,never have I had a dead bird in the box upon arrival.. I guess it all depends on the distanced shipped and the health of the birds that makes the difference if they will make it or not plus with the heat index that will always add in on the bad side of ill effects.. I bet more people then you will ever know try to get their moneys worth when shipping birds thru the post office in one box and yes its not good for the birds but the only time you will hear about it is when they come up dead
Oh and its not the post office that is charging more for shipping its the people selling the birds these days .

Well here is an update. The four that made it are doing well eating and drinking. As far as me asking about shipping in a way I guess I could be at fault because he told me the shipping would be 75 dollars on all five birds and I made the assumption that that was probably for two boxes. I buried the bird that passed during shipping the moment I got him and I really don't want pictures like that for myself. I have contacted the seller asking why there were five birds in such a small box as well also stating that I thought the birds were slightly dehydrated or emaciated and that one arrived dead. Funny thing is no answer since he got my money . Also as far as heat goes these birds came from michigan to pennsylvania the farthest south they made it on this root was philly now I checked the temps for philly on tuesday morning and it was only like 75 degrees give or take a little bit. I guess in the end it is my fault for not specifying how I wanted these birds shipped I am still waiting to hear from the seller on his opinion or views. Also when I said loan hen I ment lone hen sorry. As of this instant I am just glad that the four birds left are happy and seem to be doing ok although I do have to trim their toe nails I am going to wait another day or two because I don't want to stress them out any more.

Appreciate the update & glad to hear the four remaining birds seem to be doing OK.

The suggestion of pictures was intended only to be used in the event you wanted to proceed with any type of investigation.
