Blister? This is the 4th day Speedy's been with us and we've noticed these 2 yellwish lookng blisters groing near the base of his beak. Good news is, he's improving by leaps and bounds otherwise.
Half of the feathers on his head were missing when we got him and it was hard to tell what was sore and what was skin. Now his scalp's improved and looks less red but he has these two yellowish marks that started to blister out; one on top and one on his side. We've given him a bit (50MG) of Amoxacillian when we first rescued him and give him a Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim mix in his water for a few days as per the directions on the bottle. Also, due to the raw, irritated look of his scalp I've been putting a vetarinary bacitracin ointment on his head daily. Trouble is, these were there when we first got him and have only grown since. Does anyone have any ideas what they are or how to get rid of them?? |

it looks like canker to me. i am no expert, but thats what it looks like. if it is canker you can go to www.globalpigeon.com and look under medicines and order that. open his mouth gently and look down his throat. if it has those yellow blisters there too i am pretty sure it is canker. i would wait for someone else to agree with me before you do this though. hope he gets better, chris

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure it's a canker though. When we were tube feeding him his mouth was empty and a healthy pink color all the way down. Just looked again and there deosn't seem to be anything inside his throat, still just pink, it only appears on the outside. Pretty much all you can see in the picture is all that appears on him, inside and out.

PoxHe has Pox. Use diluted betadine on the Pox lesions. Please type in pox treatment or another arrangement of words in the search engine of this web site.
He might develope those same lesions on his legs. Julie |

Looks like avian pox lesions to me. If so, dab the bumps with diluted Betadine to help dry them up and continue the antibiotics to help stave off any opportunistic bacterial infections.

Hi,
I am no expert but I thought it may be pox....wanted to check it out b/4 I said anything as I have no experience. I found a website you might like to check out, here it is: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...UTF-8%26sa%3DN Hope it helps... Linda PS...I just looked over the site myself again and please don't let what they say about the diseases leading to death scare you. They are talking about untreated birds in the wild, I am sure. Your bird is being treated and I am sure he will be just fine ![]() Last edited by Lin Hansen; 26th October 2004 at 07:16 PM. |
