Question

Broken leg


my homer came back late on a train toss ...the last one came in with a broken leg ...when i feel for the bone ..it feel broken to 2 piece ...any thought on a way i can help ...??? he is eating fine and still drinking

Need to get the leg splinted up, can you post up a photo of the leg, also, here is link to the bones in the leg, can you describe exactly where the break is. See if you can get him in a donut, like in the link below, with food and water within easy beak reach and confined to a hospital cage for now.

This is a Homer, so my assumption is, you are gonna want to get him healed back to near 100%.

Call your avian vet and take him there. I agree, a layman CAN splint a leg, but even the most caring Pigeon person isn't a doctor...so you'd only be taking an educated guess as to how to properly splint.

Again, perhaps on an injured Feral where one is just trying to save some use of the leg for the fella/girl, a home-remedy would do. But if this is a flyer/racer you are training...go to your vet asap.

thanks everyone ..i'm ganna take him to the vet tomorrow ...but he's not going to fly anymore

I think if the leg gets proper attention and healed up..you could fly him again. He DID come back, after all.

Good that you are taking him to vet.
