Concentrated ACVHi, just a question
Is it possible or feasable to give a bird with paratyphoid 1-2 drops of undiluted ACV (or maybe a tiny piece of garlic) directly in its mouth to give it an acidic base in the intestines to combat the bacteria, instead of mixing it with water? Im asking this cause Im not sure if my birds are drinking properly, and Im not sure if enough ACV is going in through water... |

It can be done, but I would think it tastes awful. Also another thing would be that they would get the ACV in one dose which then neutralizes and that's it. It is better if they they get a constant intake of acidic water.
What you can do is, you can give them still the ACV in their water and the ones who need it most you can give them a few cc's of water with a syringe throughout the day. Reti |

No, I would not give ACV full strength, even a few drops as it would burn and hurt. Do as Reti said and always add to water. Never give a piece of garlic down a birds throat either, as there was an issue about a bird that was given a piece of raw garlic down the throat and it died (not sure if it was as a result of the garlic being put dthe throat, or what, but anyhow..it's not recommended). It is best to buy garlic soft gel caps and give one down the throat each day, that works wonders-for special issues, or put cut up garlic in their water, but never down the throat. For emaciated pigeons I would make sure to hand feed them for a while add some good human grade probiotics and then when the bird has put on some weight and has sp,e good gut flora then add a little garlic to the diet.

a bit of a side question..Can I butt in, and ask, is it recommended t refrigerate the ACV? I bought the Bragg's brand the other day and can't find it on the label; but the label is so 'busy' with notes everywhere I figure I missed it. I dont' want to refrigerate it if i shouldn't..but it seems i should?

No, you don't have to put it in the refrigerator, it stays perfectly fermented on shelf. If you intend to keep it around a long time, then I would refrigerate it. I usually use mine up in a month so it is fine on the shelf.

Thanks Treesa; I had to get quite a large bottle (all they had) which should last a while, so maybe i'll put some in a separate container and do it both ways

It should have an expiration date. But keeping it at room temperature is fine unless you intend to keep it past the exp. date.
I also buy the big bottle as this is what they mostly have and it is also more cost effective. Reti |
