dosage of meds, please help

we found a baby pideon about three weeks ago. about a week ago she had a lumpy crop. the next day the crop was better and now she is doing very well. mindy sent me 2 pills of cardizona 10mg. it probably wouldnt hurt to go ahead and give her the medicine. i dont know the dosage or how to give it to her. she is 6 1/4 oz now. she is eating on her own and gaining weight. she has most of her feathers and is a beautiful bird. we are keeping her as a pet she loves to be held and petted. any advise. thank-you tracy

Thanks for starting this in its own thread, hopefully you'll get some responses soon. It looks like many people aren't checking in tonight but tomorrow should be better. Until then keep her warm and make sure she's getting enough food. I hope she feels better.

I asked Reti, and she said 1/2 pill for a youngster. And you just pop the pill in his throat and make sure he swallows it. I've done it before, its easier than you think. If you have trouble trying giving him a pea or a piece of corn and maybe that will better for you. min

Ya, It's one 10mg tablet for adult, so I would say 1/2 tablet for a youngster.

Maryjane, yes - VERY quiet here this week! What's with that? I hope everybody is not down with the flu

She meant Carnidazolum. She didn't have the whole spelling of the word since I cut off just 2 pills from the package of pills. min

just wanted to put a update on sqeeky- well we renamed him wally after walgreens and the name fits him. he is gaining weight fast and i think the med. did the trick. we have him out alot he walks up to the dogs (3 standard poodles and a dalmation) they all try to lick him. they have been raised with a cockatoo so they think nothing of it. our pet umbrella cockatoo is very jeaslous so we have to watch her carefully when they are both out at the same time. wally is about 10oz now and loves to hop and flap at the same time almost getting air, it is so cute. anyway i just wanted to say thank-you again mindy for the meds. And to everybody for their help and advice. will he learn to fly on his own - i mean we dont have to jump off the roof together or anything.lol just kidding tracy

LOL, no roof jumping! He'll get the idea on his own
But I'd be very careful with him around your cockatoo - it just takes 1 bite from that beak

Your welcome, Tracey. Please keep us updated on Wally. We like pictures also. Yes, you have to be very careful with the other birds and the dogs. I'm sure you do keep a close on them. min

My little Taylor is 330 grams. But she was stunted in her growth when she was a baby, and she is a young female. Anywhere between 300 and 400 grams normally I think. But it all depends on the breed of pigeon you have, a King pigeon and a tame feral will be different weights.
