You have been very kind and generous, Pirus. This is one of the rare times that I can say that I hope that what goes around comes around in a benevolent way!

Yes, well I am a true beleiver in karma, you get what you give.

Regarding the operation, are these dangerous? I really hope nothing happens to him over the operation.

He is currently lying down in his cage on the towel I put in making humming noises.

IT is not the operation itself that is dangerous, but the anaesthesia.

The pigeon sounds very comfortable!

Is it rare or common for things to go wrong over this? Vet said it would take about 6 months without the op for the wound to heal, my thinking is it may be in pain for a week but after that its healed and living a somewhat normal life, otherwise its going to be uncomfortable with that big wound for a long time and when it gets itchy hes going to start pecking at it also.

Just got a call from the lady, the bird had its operation today, had its flesh stitched up and its skin and it looks fine, picking him up tomorrow

Does anyone have any advice on a cage for this bird?

Dont want it let around the room yet till the other bird gets used to it, I have a parrots cage which is very big but he just likes to be on the bottom of the cage and it doesnt seem big enough.

A medium-sized dog crate lined with old towels would work for now. He probably just wants peace and quiet while he's recuperating. A brick makes a good perch.

Hi Pirus,

We have found that the very best cage is the chinchilla cage that they sell at Petsmart, those have plenty of room and two shelves.

I looked at that cage today, I seen something called a Sage house which was a rabbit hut. It was huge, for £20 more, had 2 floors that they can walk up to from a long plank of wood. Had areas that was open to look out, other areas to hide and sleep etc. Not sure if this would be better. It was £99, the chinchilla cage was £79.

Sure looks better.
I'm so glad you got flat perches. It would be great to get some a little bigger too.

Yes I was looking at them in the pet shop yesterday. I will get some today or tomorrow, they also had tree type ones so that may be a better option for him.

Would something like this be any good for him?

I would choose the chinchilla cage Cynthis suggested. That hutch looks so big, clunky, and way to dark inside and looks to be really hard to keep clean.
