Help! Puffed up pigeon with beak stuck open and crusty eyes!

I found a pigeon yesterday just sitting in my driveway not moving - it was very puffed up and it's beak was stuck open. It looks like it's blind as I can't see really where it's eyes are. I found this web site and made the formula with salt, sugar, and water and the pigeon drank it up. A little yellow tongue came out and he dunked his face into the water. His beak stayed open the whole time and looks like it won't shut. I tried to move him to safety in a box but he kept half-heartedly trying to fly away. He didn't get very far as he seems to be very sick. Where should I take him? Should I buy bird seed? I am very worried about him and want to make sure he lives. Any advice would be very appreciated!

Thank you!

Hello and Welcome to pigeon Talk,

Thank you for helping this poor bird.

It sounds like he has a severe case of canker, which might be blocking his food passage. This needs immediate treatment.

Where do you live, perhaps we can find you some help or meds?

Please keep bird warm and try to give it very watery bird formula once it is thru the hydrating period.

Thanks for the advice. I found out he was a regional pigeon so I took him to the local wildlife rehab yesterday and they sadly told me they would have to put him to sleep. The vet said the pigeon was in too much pain and was permanently blind so they would never be able to release him. So sad. Thanks for the advice.
