I have a pigeon, I think, that needs help, I think???Hello,
I have a slight bird issue (???). I live in an apartment complex and each apartment has a "porch" (balcony/slab of wood that you can stand on). Friday afternoon I noticed what I thought was a white towel on the corner of the porch which I thought was odd, but on closer inspection (put in my contacts) I discovered it was a bird. Long story short, its still here. It moves, and leaves occasionally but always comes back. Here is my question: It is completely snow white, small, little beak, with almost red clawlike chicken feet, is it possible this is a pigeon? Outside of the feet, it displays no chicken characteristic. Its little, sleek, shortish, with a bit of a drippy eye. I've tried to do some research about pigeons but am coming up a bit short and basically the little guy looks cold. I can't get a cage or bring it in or really do that much except get some neighbors with birds to donate some food as I have a cat who spends the day whining at the sliding glass door at the bird "threatening" his domain.... Any thoughts, ideas??? Thanks! |

Hello & Welcome to pigeons.com, Yes, this very well could be a pigeon. Could you check to see if there are any bands on it's legs. White pigeons are are not commonly found free flying. Some racing pigeons are white as are the pigeons released at ceremonial events, e.g., weddings, patriotic events, etc. Its little, sleek, shortish, with a bit of a drippy eye. The 'drippy' eye may be an indication of infection or some other problem. It would be great if you, or one of your neighbors, could catch this baby. If you could post your general location, it's possible one of our members lives in your area that could help you physically. Please keep us posted. Cindy ![]() I just reread your post & noticed you indicated the pigeon 'looks cold'. Does it appear to have it's feathers fluffed? Again, depending on where you are located (weather wise), it could be cold or it may not be feeling well. Given the description of the drippy eye, this may be the case. Please let us know if someone is able to catch this little sweetie.

Hi Bethany .. it could be a pigeon or perhaps a white ringneck dove. In either case, it sounds like the bird needs help and fairly quickly. As Cindy posted, if you can let us know where you are located, perhaps a member is nearby and can help with the bird.
The bird definitely should be brought inside. Can you put it in a cardboard box with an old towel or T-shirt and place the box somewhere safe from the cat but where the bird can warm up? Terry |

Hi Bethany, yes, it would be good if we knew where you live.
1. First, look after the birds needs, water and seeds.. 2. Second, catch the bird if it continues to stay, so you can determine if it needs your assistance. 3. If the nights are not yet cold, you could put the bird in a small cage and place it up high on your deck, up and away from cats, at least until you decide what this birds fate will be. If you still have the bird, please write us and let us know what is happening. Thanks, Regards, Carl |
