If a pigeon is not processing foodI would like an answer to this for future rescues.
If, after testing, I am told that a pigeon is not processing food, is there any reasonable hope that he can make it. Can this condition be turned around? Thanks. Phyll |

I think it all depends on what is causing the food to not be processed. Are we talking gastro-intestinal obstruction, organ failure, occlusion due to canker, baterial/viral infection or....what? We can certainly buy time with items like Pedialyte, watery formulas/nutrical or other nutritional augmentation, until they are ready to continue without aid. I don't know that there is one pat answer to this question, sometimes yes, perhaps others in dire critical presentation, perhaps not. Sorry to be non-definitive, but I'm not sure there is a definitive answer to this question. Hope this helps. fp

Hi Phyll, What kind of 'testing'? By whom? If they are pooping out whole Seeds, there is nothing ambiguous about it, and 'testing' to discover it, seems un-necessary, since it would be obvious at a glance. If nothing is getting through for there to be any poops at all, or if what is pooped-out, is bile or urates or both, we would need to know more about the Pigeon's symptoms and history in order to form some conjectures. Can you supply some more information? Images? Best wishes... Phil l v |
