immunity booster in pigeons.Dear Friends, We are an NGO working for animal welfare in Surat gujarat India. We just had kite flying season in surat and we rescued over 1000 injured birds. over 100 birds are handicapped and are under our shelter. we have vaccinated them but we are observing frequent deaths, may be due to compromised health due to injury. But we want to avoide deaths due to viral infection as we have limited space in the enclosure. Can anyone please guide us for the management of pigeons, we have a vet but we want to have latest info to help him manage the birds.

Obviously you need to determine first whether the deaths are related to the vaccine or not. You do that by segregating them into groups, say five groups of twenty each. Vaccinate the all of the birds in two groups and keep two groups for control. Of the birds in the fifth group vaccinate half of them at random and mark the ones vaccinated. Count the deaths after 5, 10, 15 and 30 days from each group. Anybody with a basic knowledge of statistics will be able to tell you right away.
If it is not the vaccine, you will have a 50% survival rate. If it is the vaccine, the same. |
