Just found WILD, SICK feral pigeon, please help!

Personally, i dont think this bird will make it, but the story is.. i was going to school which was about 2\3 hours from my house, when i accidently took the wrong exit lol so i went in a parking lot to turn and i saw a bird in the MIDDLE of the highway\ country road. I saw a truck come straight right next to it and almost hit it and the bird wasnt blow away but just tilted. So anyways i ran across the street in the middle and picked it up, and i brought it to my car. I offered it some seeds it didnt eat, and i offered it some water it didnt drink very much i just saw it moving its beak in it. Then it POOPED bright green. one of its eyes are swollen somewhat which i will get a picture right now. and it is VERY VERY light and looks like it hasnt ate anything at all. it wasnt afraid of me picking it up at all, thats how weak it is. its not breathing heavy at all and its mouth is not open.

i have a video right here im uploading it right now...

95% chance this bird wont make it, but i just want to atleast give it a good and quiet place so incase it does pass away it will be comfortable.

EDIT: also i noticed its pupils are dilating quickly, and i looked in its throat , it doesnt have any yellow stuff in there its just sticky and its poops smell bad ( they were liquid bright green)

I'm so glad you came along to help this poor little guy. I don't have any advice, just know I'm hoping you'll be able to save him. You have a lot of pigeon expertise so . . . .
Just keep him warm and start him with the rehydration stuff. Sounds like he's starving, but from what I've read on this forum, food too soon could tip him over the edge.
Keep us posted and prayers for your latest rescue.

Hi there,
i know you have pet pigeons but am not sure how many sick pigeons you've come into contact with...so sorry if this info is too basic...first the pigeon needs to be warmed up a bit, then rehydrated for a couple hours before it should be given any food. use pedialyte or 1 cup warm water mixed with a pinch each of salt and sugar. if the pigeon can't drink on his own, then you can use a dropper or syringe to put drops on the side of his beak. that usually helps revive them a bit and then you know better what you're dealing with. but in this case, the bird might have severe internal injuries...best of luck with the poor pijie!

Do not try to feed the bird. Give him pedialyte if you have and if not give water with a pinch of salt and sugar.
Let him rest in a semi-dark place and provide heat, either with a heating pad or warm water bottles.
Give him about 10cc's of water and let him rest.

Do you have any antibiotics on hand?

Please provide heat. This bird is very sick and he needs to be kept warm. If you have a carrier that would be maybe more comfortable for him.
Give him some more water.
Do you have any Baytril or Cipro?

the water went in him very well, there is no blockage because i dont see any canker. I think it has salmanosis because of the green poop.

When and how should i feed it? i dont have any tube feeding supplies

You can give him a tablet of spartrix for three days, for just in case. Sometimes canker can develop down their throat where you can't see it.

Hope the little guy made it through the night.
After he is well hydrated and warmed up you can start feeding him.

Clint,

How "bright green" are we talking on those poops? There is an almost neon bright bluegreen that you see the urates (what should be the white part) sometimes getting when the liver is heavily affected. It's probably usually due to Salmonellosis but it doesn't have to be. Most of the birds that I have like that who have lived have responded to Baytril but I haven't even tried anything else in cases like that. I have had them come back to the land of the living when they've had an identical appearance to this one that you've got with the exception of the swollen eye. When people talk about swelling and eyes, they rarely explain whether it's the tissue around the eye or the orb of the eye itself. Anyhow, you really need to get some Baytril to have in hand although I wouldn't stop what you're already doing for the poor fellow right now.

sorry to say the bird didnt make it through the night, but on a positive note it doesnt show it suffered much... he came into our lives alittle too late, past the point of being able to recover.
