Loverly UpdateI thought since it has been nearly a year since I first got Loverly, it would be a good time for an update. She still lives in the house. However, she goes out to the aviary with her friends almost every day for a couple of hours, weather permitting. And the BIG news is that she finally chose a mate. She and Spinner, a PMV survivor, began the time honored pigeon mating ritual just after Christmas. On New Year's Day she presented her mate with an egg. And of course egg #2 followed in the required 48 hours. I had given them a nest bowl, but they just shoved the eggs out, so now have them on a towel in the cage. Neither seems very interested in brooding the eggs, but that is just as well because feeding babies would be difficult for them both. But they are very affectionate with each other with lots of pigeon coos and nibbles and much closeness. Loverly is all healed now. She lost too much of her R wing tip to grow flights there. A few begin, but then sort of wither and fall away. I think the blood supply may be impaired. So she will not ever fly. Spinner has extreme spasticity, but is able to feed himself and do most everything except fly. So the pair of them will eventually go to the handicapped loft when the weather warms up to live happily ever after.

I should have said that Loverly is the blue bar and Spinner the check. Spinner
s tail is a mess because he spins and bangs his tail against the side of the cage, loft, aviary, whatever space he is in at the time. M. |

They'll be a lovely pair, I bet
![]() I saw the same tail problems when I had three PMV birds inside - the worst affected one would spin and wander backwards all over the place, so my Mini looked somewhat tatty after a while. I think he (or she) is looking better now he's in the aviary and has almost regained normal movements. John

Margaret - thank you so much for this update. I could still weep when I see how well Loverly is doing now compared to when you took her in. Her story is probably the top rehab story ever here on the forum and thanks to your great care, she is now a beautiful, healthy pigeon.
I am so happy she has a mate. That kinda completes her recovery. Again, many thanks. I'm not sure I would have had the courage to do what you had to do to save her.

Hi Margaret,
They are beautiful..!!! Now...which one is the Hen?? The second image, 'Spinner' is standing very nicely indeed. You know, I bet they could feed Buh-Hay-Bees just fine ( not that you need Babys right now, Lol ). Those Babys are pretty good at hitting a 'moving target' too! Far as 'Spinner' goes...I bet he'd/she'd manage fine with feeding them. Golly...good to hear the happy news..! "The Love Birds" Awwwwwww... Best wishes! Phil l v |
