Meet Miss Martha

I usually post incoming pigeons under the feral forum but this little one has a few problems so I'm posting in the sick and injured forum.

We picked her up from our After Hours Clinic today. She is very dainty, 190 grams and I expect is full grown - some type of tumbler/roller. Some kind person found her wandering around on a street and rescued her.

She has diarrhea, the pea green color, usually indicative of starvation. Her tail feathers and bottom are this color. The clinic checked her poop and found parasites and treated her with Fenbendazole (Panacur) and Enrofloxacin (Baytril) and gave us enough meds to complete the treatment. I'm not going to give her any more Panacur but will treat her in a few days with Pyrantel which is safer. She has one drooping wing that hangs almost to the floor but doesn't appear to have any breaks and they didn't mention it. I believe she may have hit a car or something but we'll get her to our regular vet tomorrow.

I have her, of course, on heating pad and we're just observing her right now. She has eaten pretty good but we will probably supplement her food tonight with Exact and Benebac to try to get her digestive system going better. Her poops are mainly water now. Must have gone a few days without food.

She is banded but it is a simple snap on with only one number so no way to trace her. Sure hope she makes it.

I'm posting her picture in my album which you can find by clicking my name at the top.

Maggie, maybe I did something wrong but I couldn't see her photo, just one of Corky. She sounds like a sweetheart.

Thanks Cathy - you click my name then view public profile and when that comes up the albums are on the right side and just click on "Miss Martha's Album". It does get confusing with having both the gallery and our albums.

Wishing all the best for Miss Martha, Maggie! If anyone can pull her through, I'll bet on you and Lewis!

Looking forward to positive updates!

With LOVE, HUGS and SCRITCHES

P.S. Miss Martha is a little beauty!! I hear you about the weight! WoeBeGone, a West of England Tortoiseshell Tumbler, and my newest addtion, weighed only 191 grams a few weeks ago! I'm sure she has put on weight since then and will know how much this Friday!

Miss Martha is still hanging in there but is a very, very sick little bird. We're hand feeding her 10 cc of Exact to supplement the seed she is eating and her poop has some fecal matter in it but still mostly water. There are two things that usually raise alarm bells with us - odor and how they stand. She has a "sick" odor to her. Those of you who do rehab work probably know what I'm talking about. Her stance is one of being very sick too, puffed out, staggering a bit, feathers raised some on her head.

I'm still hoping the meds kick in but we have a long way to go with her. Please remember this little one in your prayers because she is very sick.

Are you taking her to the vet today, or do you have to wait until tomorrow? Poor baby. Wonder where she came from? I bet there's a roller person somewhere sort of close to you. Snap band. What's the point??? Oh, yea, I forgot........the point is, if the bird gets lost, no one will bother you about finding it.....

Maggie,

Hope Miss Martha makes it.

Only saw two very small photos (100 x 150 pixels), so not much detail. Is this correct?

Many thanks from Miss Martha....

Renee, senior moment yesterday - thinking it was already Sunday so it will be Monday before our regular vet sees her.

Larry, you can enlarge each small picture by clicking on them. Any of the pictures in our member albums can be enlarged that way. I've started putting any pictures in my album because it is sooooooooo much easier than sizing them for the regular posts. Lazy, lazy, lazy.

I expect a lot of people use this type band to distinguish their own birds within their lofts. Shi, that is so nice you had your phone number printed on those you release. At least if they get in trouble again you can be notified.
