Need help with canker

I have been finding and losing a lot of my ferals to canker.I know what canker
looks like and need to know b/4 I get the bird to a vet(Sometimes I find these bird late at night when vets are not open) is there anything I can do for the bird
Any thing I can keep in the house to treat the canker b/4 it is vet bound.
I live in the USA and am a a loss of what product to use. Tried a 4 in 1 tablet
but in most cases the birds couldn't swallow. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can treat your flock. Buy the above product and add 1 teraspoon to 3# of seed. Coat the seed with scant amount of wheat germ oil or vegitable oil first...just enough so the powder sticks to it. Treat the flock for 5 days.
You can buy pills from the same site for individual treatment...Meditrich...Spartrix.

This may be good news...Ivette spotted a canker sufferer in a wild flock she feeds....but he appears to be too evasive to catch....this may be something she can use if we cannot get the bird individually.

Hi Pat,

I keep Flagyl and Spartrix for ferals with canker.

The Flagyl comes in a syrup, the spartrix is a tablet but it can be crushed between two spoons and placed in the lower beak, or mixed into a paste with a little water.

I once found a pigeon whose throat was so badly blocked with canker that I didn't think he would last the night. I crushed a tablet of spartrix and placed the powder in the front of the lower beak, hoping that the pigeon's saliva would wash it down to whatever crack may have been left through the esophagus. (I should have made it into a paste to reduce the possibilty of it inhaling powder). The next day half the canker had disappeared and he went on to make a full recovery.
