Thank you Maryjane.

The synulox: can I give this in solid form or does it have to be in a solution? The tablets cut into nice little bits and would be easier to feed as a solid. is this ok?
Of course, if not I will continue using them in a solution.

If pieces of the tablet end up being the amount of Synulox needed, it's OK to just give the tablet. Otherwise you have to make the solution in order not to under or over dose.

Thank you for the information Terry. Just gave him another dose of synulox and baytril.

Hello again Brad, good to see you again
I hope all is well with you and yours.

Thanks for the good wishes for the little patient...I will keep this thread updated as to how he comes along.
I was heartned this morning to see him pecking at a few seeds after I had given him his medication and he was rather grumpy when I gave him it too. He does come around some when I pick him up to give him his medicine and is quite feisty but reverts back to sleepy/puffed out mode when he goes back into his nest.
Well he is warm and and comfy looking and I won't be disturbing him until around 6 o'clock tonight so he has a nice period of rest coming his way.
I hope he gets better, he is a lovely little chap.

Ed.

Third day of his medication...just gave him his baytril and synulox and he seemed quite a bit more "with it" this morning.
He actually ate quite a lot of seeds! I noticed he seemed to be picking out the black sunflower variety so I picked a lot of them out of the mix and put them down for him and he ate the lot. He was feisty enough to be bunting his seeds all over searching for the ones he liked...that is a good sign surely?

He has finished his breakfast now and is standing fluffed out a little, resting. His poops are not the bright green colour now, they are much darker and more solid.

Best wishes to all and their birds!

Hi Ed,

Was following but had not posted yet.

Glad to hear things go well..!

I would say, from casual observation, day 'four' is usually about it, from time of Cat bites, to deceased Pigeon, if Pasturella is the mischeif...so, catching it on day "3" was well timed.

His interest to be eating now of course is a good sign of a well procedeing and promising recovery.

Best wishes,

Phil

Hi Phil, and thanks for the encouraging words.
He is certainly much brighter today, he has been eating on and off all day and preening himself. He seems pretty contented where he is at the moment though, so I'll just continue his treatments and hope he starts to get more restless as in wanting to be free again.
Of course, there is no rush for that...if he continues showing signs of improvement then I'll think about putting him in the window for a few hours a day, to get him used to the natural light and outside views again.
I can see the very beginnings of where the feathers are coming back...the tiniest little sprouts.

I have decided to call him "Streaker" because he was rather bare and "showing some skin" when I got hold of him

All the best,
Ed.

Hi Ed,

I'm glad to read that Streaker continues to improve, that's great news!

Thanks for taking such good care of him.

Thank you for the kind words Treesa.

Streaker is on his fourth full day of treatment now (Baytril and Synulox) and is definitely a lot brighter than he was when I found him.
However, he doesn't seem to be putting any weight on and his breast bone is still very prominent and sharp and he still seems rather weak when I take him out for a walk and put him in the window for a hour or so. He definitely has no inclination to try and fly yet although his wings are in good shape and he can flap them when I go to pick him up. He does seem to just like to lie down and rest a lot although he will stand on one leg occasionally.
When he is in the window he will stand but not walk about. I remember last year when I had the two paint covered youngsters, when I put them in the window they would be walking and jumping up and down for hours on end! It is such a contrast although I realise that streaker is still unwell of course.

Am I hoping for too much too soon and just need to give him a lot more time?

The little sprouting feathers on his back continue to grow very slowly.

Thanks for any thoughts,
Ed.

Make sure to feed him by hand, if his appetite is lacking. Also give him the probiotics on the off time-away from the meds.

Thanks Treesa.
I've been giving him probiotics mid-afternoon...I give him his Baytril and half his Synulox in the morning, the other half of his Synulox in the evening.

I havn't been hand feeding him as he does have a good go at his seeds and even sorts through them, especially when I top them up which I do regularly to encourage him to eat.
I`ll do some hand feeding too now you recommend it.

I just hope he can grow stronger!

Thanks,
Ed.

Once the antibiotic treatment is finished, you might worm him.
