nora paquette

undefinedundefined[color=DarkSlateBlue]undefined[I just became the mother of a nice male bird. He is doing well except fo a small boil like thing that is formed around the back part of his mouth. It has a scab now and I have been using Oil Of Oregano on it to see if it is a bacteria of some kind. What else can I do? He is eating well and is otherwise fine./COLOR]

Hi and welcome to pigeons.com,

Seems like your pij might have pox..
If it's pox you can use Tea Tree oil on the lesions to help shrink them. If you have any other birds keep them away and the pigeon must be put in quarantine as it's contageous to other pigeons.

Here is some info on pox:
http://www.chevita.com/tauben/behand...ctions_pox.htm
http://www.siegelpigeons.com/catalog-pox.html
http://www.wingswest.net/pigeons/health/pox.html

Keep the pij warm and other members with suggestions will be along shortly to assist you..

Sounds like it might be Pigeon Pox. I might suggest you search this site or the web in general for some photos. There is a link here somewhere, but I can't remember where.

Good luck.

Yes, it sounds like pox.
Is this your first bird? If so, you should know that pox is not transmitted to humans, so there is nothing to worry about. But of course you should wash your hands after handling the bird.
There is no treatment for pox, you just let it run it's course. Keep the birdie warm, well hydrated, well fed and some vitamins should also help.
My vet recommends echinaceea, 1/4 tablet a day for 4 days. It boosts the immune system.
All that if it is pox.
It could also be something else, if you see any changes, please let us know, so we can give further advice.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Reti
