Oh no, Bleeding back toenail on 2-week old dove.

My baby has a hurt toenail and won't stop leaving little red dots on everything. What do I do?
He seems unhappy, I want to help but I don't want to mess it up.

A little cornstarch or flour on the end of the nail should help stop the bleeding. A styptic pencil (available at drugstores, usually with shaving supplies) is even better, if you have one.

No pencil, but cornstarch is on the way! (oh, more blood on my hand where Salt was perching )

Oh dear, I have cornMEAL not cornstarch. Salt is now sitting in a small pile of cornstarch. The nail looks ripped, like it caught on something. He won't hold still for inspection/treatment.

Hope it's stopped bleeding.....any powdery substance will work in such a case. I've had on hand only flour before, and filled a pot with it and stuck the pijie or dove in it up to their ankles, then held them on my lap that way for half an hour or so. Glad to hear it's working.

Oh yes it completely worked and looks much better.
Only, as you know, he wouldn't just sit in it on the counter. He HAD to be in my hand or he would get out of the cornmeal.
