Phoenix is looking terrific! That little bump could be pox, but it doesn't really look like any pox I have seen.

Philodice,

He is looking really good. That doesn't look like pox to me either, but I've only seen it a couple of times. To be on the safe side, I'd keep him isolated for a while yet.

I looked up lots of pictures of pox, and sometimes it does show up as a small fleshy bump. That's rare though. He's stuffing his beak right now for breakfast in his little isolation apartment.

Well that sounds sad. In his little isolation apartment.

Phoenix appears to be getting better, the lumps are almost gone, no sign of cankar or other diseases along with the lumps. I put his cage outside for fresh air and a little sunshine and he is acting less listless. Colliodal silver still is working. Thought he was going scissor-beak on me there for a few days but he came back to normal. One thing I'm depressed about is he seems completely afraid of me.
I am the one who held him under the faucet to wash his wounds, then superglued them shut. Would you want to live with that? He shakes every time I come near and I can't help but think he remembers the trauma of me saving his life but not me hand feeding him when he was little.
I wish I knew somebody that could take him, for his mental health.

Wished I lived closer. I would take little pheonix in a minute. She would be a cute little friend for my little rescue who had his wing chewed up, by a dog, we think. He is a floor bird, but gets around fine, as we have added so many features in the loft for a handicapped bird. He'd probably love the company down there. Actually, though, he gets up on all the shelves and some of the perches, by way of ramps and shelves that are placed so that he can jump from one to the other. But I'm in Mass. Poor little thing. I'm so sorry that you two have had to go through all this. I don't know what I'd do if my little Luigi, who I hand raised from two days old felt this way about me. I'd feel horrible. Hope you find a solution.

I think given time, little Phoenix might come around.
You know, my Scooter was the same way for the first year or so of his life. I handled him when he was a baby, but when he got grown, he was scared of me. He stayed that way until about 6 months or so ago........I have NO IDEA what changed his mind, but now I can pick him up any time I want to. He NEVER runs away from a fight (my hand ) and when I'm out in their aviary, he'll come to me.
I say give Phoenix more time, love him, talk to him and just let him be hisself. He may come around one day.

Renee is right. Maybe it's just a stage he's going through. Probably one day, phoenix will be back to normal. Don't give up on him yet. You two have been through so much together.

Philodice,
I'll be happy to take Phoenix. Let me know when you can bring him over.

Philodice, I'm sorry to hear of your bird's health issues, though I think
that Cindy's offer is a healing one. Whether this bird has pox, canker, or
an insect bite is as of yet undeterminable. I know that Cindy will provide
the critical care needed for this rescues recovery. Hoping that all returns
to a relative 'normal'.....

Thank you, Cindy, for offering a home to little Phoenix and to you, Philodice, for being so concerned about the welfare of your little dove.

Yes it has been almost a month since the lumps appeared and quarantine began, and they are almost gone, you could keep Phoenix in quarantine until the last one goes away, which should be in a few days right? I know you would give her (I keep forgetting, pretty sure it's a girl now, her brother is already making the usual boy noises and she does not) the best of care. She seems just not to want to be here. I've lost your address but I still have your phone number. She would come with cage, (if you want it) the usual 3 dishes food/grit/water all small special dishes for a special needs bird and all the love I can pack into a goodbye kiss.

Meanwhile all the other doves and Glacier are doing great. Glacier could use a pigeon friend, though. He will coo to anything out there in the aviary and he looks so fantastic now. Some gorgeous bird, I'm going to put a mirror out there for him.

Phoenix is now at Cindy's house and I think she likes Shi. She has been in quarantine for 5 weeks at my house. She likes small seeds, small seed dishes, and long walks. And has a dislike/fear of cats. She is used to having the cage covered at night, is adapted to outside temperatures of the Mesa area so is not fond of or used to cold, fan moved air. She has pink feet. She likes canary size extra calcium grit.
That's all I can think of for now.
