Pigeon help! PLEASE

I found a pigeon last night at a restaurant in a shopping mall, the pigeon was sitting within the wippers of a car, so i saw that it was alone and so i checked to see if he was okay and he let me touch him..i love animals so i took him home...and when i got home i touched his belly to see if he had food inside but it was empty, he didn't really know or want to eat so i hand-fed him last night with bird food (peebles) and then i put him in a little box. Then today when i woke in the morning i hand fed him again but i noticed that his poo is black green or white green something like that. Is he sick? what should i do? He flies, bcuz i put him on the floor of my house and he flew a little to the couch. His head is normal but he is missing feathers around his cheeks, and he's missing feathers under his wings. what's wrong with him? I am a college student and i can't afford to pay a vet...i love animals and i just want to make it better and then let it go. PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU

Sounds like a youngster who cannot fly yet.
Is he eating on his own?
Are the droppings solid or runny? The color doesn't sound too bad as it changes depending what they eat.

Hang in there.

Welcome to Pigeon talk and thanks for giving this baby a boost.

Here's the best place to start looking for advice.
http://www.pigeons.biz/forums/f25/

There's a lot of information there and if you have a chance to read through some if it, that can help you figure out the best information to pass on to the group. People pop in and out throughout the day and I'm sure you'll get help, but until the experts weigh in . . ..

Oh, if you can post pictures of the bird and the poop

THat really helps.

Where, basically, are you (in case we've got someone in your area)?

Do his wings always droop below his tail like that? If so, he might be sick with something fairly common. Can you post more pictures, one from the side and a little more "full-frame"?

Another thing you might want to do is to open his beak and look inside all around the inside of the mouth and throat, top and bottom. What you're looking for is cheesy buttons--bumps that look like real cheddar cheese. And smell the breath--normally, you can't smell it but sometimes they get something that causes it to smell bad.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like a fledgling to me too. He got out of the nest too soon, before he could fly and before the parents had taught him how to eat.

He will be flying very well in a few more days but you'll need to keep him for maybe a couple more weeks until he is able to eat on his own. I would continue feeding him seed and leaving them out for him. You can peck at them with your finger and he'll probably start pecking with you some. Also, small seeds are easier for them to pick up at his age.

The poop looks ok but I think he had not been fed for a while and will need to get more nourishment. I'm really glad you rescued him because he is too young to survive on his own.

I am also in Miami. Let me know if you need any help with this guy.
Keep on feeding him, he looks healthy otherwise, he is just a baby.
