Pigeon not flyingA large pigeon has appeared in our garden and, whilst it is energetic to hop around and jump on seats and tables, it doesn't seem able to fly.
It is certainly larger than most pigeons. The problem is that we cannot let our cat outside while the pigeon is still there, but want to do something that can properly treat the pigeon. |

Hi,
Have you got a cage or pet carrier that you could just house the pigeon in while we try and sort out the problem? Your poor cat will be desperate at this rate !! If the bird can't fly but is quite active then you may have to try and corner it in some way and see if you're able to pick it up and take inside out of harms way. They can still run quite fast so go very gently towards it so as not to stress it too much, it might attempt to run and hide if it's unable to fly off. That's the first thing I would suggest then we can help you with how to assist the bird. Can you tell us your location aswell so if you successful in catching the bird we can see if there's anyone around who can help. Also, has the bird got any bands on it's legs? Let us know how you get on. Janet |

Hi
I second Janet's advice - if it's large, then that sounds like an adult, with a problem needing treatment. As you refer to the 'garden' I'd guess you are in the UK. So, is this a wood pigeon you have there, or a feral pigeon (or maybe a homer)? If not sure, can you get a pic or describe it for us? Definitely needs rounding up before harm comes to it, anyway. John
