Ringneck Dove ER?

Hi, I've had a feral ringneck dove now for a month. I believe he's young but healthy, or so I though. After a couple days of finding him, he would coo and sing all the time, loved attention and affection and perching on my shoulder wherever I went. For the past 2 days he has been wheezing when he exhales, sneezes and when he coos there is no longer any reverberation in the coo. Just a wheeze that starts half way through when he would normally reverberate. He only seems to wheeze when he is about to nap, pulling his head into his chest. Everything else it normal, he is still active and alert. Still eating and everything else seems fine. Except his poo, and it's only happened once, but it was almost all liquid with brown in it. Since that one it's been firm and normal, like before. I've checked and searched everywhere for what this might be, or if it's something fatal or contagious to humans, since he's feral my mom is worried. I am grateful for any information regarding this. Thanks

Open its mouth and see if there is any white spots. If there is you need to get it canker meds, If not then he has a respiratory illness and you Doxycycline capsules

It could be a lung infection

Could also be a changing of his voice, if you got him as a youngster. Generally wheezing isn't a good thing, and it could be a sign of a respiratory problem, as PL says ~ but Dove's voices do change as they mature.

I would say keep a close eye on him...if you notice any red flags (reduced appetite, change in poops again, white spots in the mouth, phlegm, reduced activity level, listlessness/sleepiness....etc.) get him to an Avian Vet for an exam and some tests...

Because he did come from unknown origins and was out I would make a vet appointment for him to have an exam done..and a fecal test as well and a crop swab.

He seems to be completely back to normal, singing full voiced, all hours of the day and night like usual I started him on vitamins and dried fruits for treats. Also, I hadn't brought him out of the house since I got him, but started taking him out, with his cage, for at least 2 hours before I go to work hoping the fresh air and sun would help. I plan on getting him an exam as soon as I find an avian vet in the area. Thanks for the help, he had me worried!

Good news ! Remain vigilant on his condition. Good luck finding an Avian Vet. I know they are few and far between, but every companion bird owner should have a relationship with a local Avian Vet.
