Hi Tina,
I'm sorry your birds are not well. Unfortunately there are many things that could be the problem. Are you able to take one of the birds to an avian vet for a diagnosis? Please let us know. Be sure your birds are not getting wet or extremely cold and are not in a draft .. it's most definitely winter where you are. Can you describe what their poop looks like? Have your birds been treated for any diseases or given any medication? If so, please tell us what's been done. Terry |

Tina,
You're going to have to find someone local to you to help with your birds and fairly quickly. It does sound like they need medicine/veterinary attention. There is no possible way that any of us can accurately tell you what is wrong with your birds over the internet or get you any medicine quickly enough to help. Even if I overnighted you the typical drugs, you wouldn't get them until Monday. Don't wait .. try to get help where you are now. You really, really need to have a vet, a local pigeon fancier, or wildlife rehabilitator with a lot of experience help you out with this. I wish there was some magic wand I could wave and make it all better, but I can't. You do have to be keeping these birds warm, and I mean warm .. not just in the coop, loft, garage, or whatever, but really, really warm. If they are as sick as they sound, they have no energy to expend to keep themselves warm. They need to be on heating pads set on low or under low wattage bulbs for extra heat. You also need to be sure they are still drinking on their own. If they become hypothermic (too cold) and dehydrated (not drinking), they are going to die. The warmth and fluids are more important right now than food for them. Please keep us posted and do be trying to get some help for your birds right now. Terry |

Hi Tina,
Please follow Terry's advice and take a single pigeon to a vet. It must be the same thing that is affecting them all. Only a vet will be able to tell you what the problem is. But if you don't consult a vet there is a real possibility that they will die. Being fluffed up, unresponsive and having runny poops is just a sign that a pigeon is very ill, we can't tell whether their illness is caused by a virus, bacteria or parasites so we can't recommend a treatment. Keeping them warm is very important. You must also separate any healthy pigeons from the sick ones. Cynthia

Once they quit eating they are in trouble, exspecially this time of year,by the time they hit this stage they are very light and without food can't generate heat, so put a light on them and keep em warm. First thing you need to do is get something in them, You can try handfeeding by opening their mouths and forcing them to eat or better yet use a babybird formila such as Kytee which is mainly for handfeeding hookbills, and use a feeding srynge, I put on a short leangth of surgical tubing on to the end of it and it just goes down the throat into the crop and then you just fill em up. You can get this at feed stores or pet stores, the tubing at a drugstore. Next I would look for Sulmit which many feed stores carry also. I would shoot that down their throat also at recomended dose. Then you cross your fingers. good luck

In a syringe I use 1/2 cc to 2cc water on sulmet. Or 1 teaspoon to a gallon of water. Most vet supply stores has it as well. Does sound a little like coccidiose Or ecoli perhaps. Is there local breeders that you can contact to help?

Too little Too lateRobert,
With today being 11/30, by now the outcome was fatal or else the bird is on the way to recovery without intervention. By the time a novice realizes a problem and posts it on this site, the window of opportunity to treat is very narrow. By the time meds are available to use, it is most likely too late. If the problem is due to a virus, there is no medication or antibotic that will help, it will simply have to run it's course. |

Warren no doubt it was a hail mary approach but the Gal asked for help and that was the quikest thing that "I" could think of, and if she did as I suggested there was a slight chance. I think that we both know the outcome though.

Tina is still asking for help (and wormers) in a new post in general discussions. So all hope is not lost.
